The nonthermal X-ray emission properties of young rotation powered pulsars
Abstract
We present a statistical study of the nonthermal X-ray emission of 29 young rotation powered pulsars and 21 pulsar wind nebulae by using the Chandra and XMM-Newton observations We obtained the X-ray luminosities and power law indices of these pulsars L x psr Gamma psr and pulsar wind nebulae L x pwn Gamma pwn and investigated the relations between these quantities and the pulsar periods P period derivatives dot P age tau spin-down luminosity dot E and surface magnetic field strengths B We find that 1 L x psr is strongly correlated with P dot P tau dot E and B and weakly correlated with Gamma psr 2 Gamma psr is negatively correlated with B and dot E but positively correlated with tau and 3 L x pwn shows weak correlation with P dot P and B The physics behind these correlations was briefly discussed
